COAL TEST - Kamado Joe Big Block - Startup / Longevity
I weighed out two pounds of Kamado Joe Big Block with fairly consistently sized pieces into the small Kick Ash Basket. I loaded that into the Kamado Joe Classic 3 and used the propane torch for exactly 45 seconds to light the coal. I installed the heat deflectors and grill grates in the grill. I set the Kontrol Tower top vent to the first mark. I powered up the FireBoard 2 Drive and set it to run at 300°F with the fan max set at 20%.
Time to temp on this test: 32 minutes (8:33am to 9:05am)
Time at temp on this test: 3 hours and 43 minutes (9:05am to 12:48pm)
Time at temp was measured from the time the grill hit 300°F until it fell to 280°F with the fan running.
** This was the first charcoal I tested so I didn't think to make photos of the coal. But those images are included in the video where I was describing how I am executing these tests.
Current price is $24.99/20lbs - $1.25/lb
